In December of 2012, scientists from Marie Selby Botanical Gardens traveled to the Boracayán Wildlife Refuge in southwestern Costa Rica.  Their mission was twofold: to catalog the plant diversity existing in the refuge and to train local Costa Ricans on botanical fieldwork.  Selby is an international leader in the biology of epiphytes (plants that grow on other plants with no connection of their own to the earth), with a special emphasis on orchids.
